“What is inspiring for me about working as a developer at RELEX is that the problems we are solving are really challenging. Every day I re-learn how little I really know and how much there is still to learn”, says André Brunnsberg, one of our Lead Software Developers. André joined us six years ago, and during the years, he has also become a team lead.
“Today, I also work as a team lead. I lead the product development team for a specific feature in RELEX’s Living Retail Platform that calculates order proposals”, André explains.
Also, six years ago, when André joined us, only around ten developers worked with RELEX’s product. Now there are about 150.
“I also do a lot of job interviews because we are continuously looking for new developers. As a team lead, I have learned many soft skills because of constantly meeting new people. It’s nice that I can learn something new also in that sense every day”, he says.
“On the other hand, developing our product, there is also a lot that requires in-depth knowledge. You can never really know everything. When I first started, there were a lot of hard skills to learn for me. And if someone says in a job interview that they know a certain technology really well, I know they’ll be surprised.”
What it’s like to develop a product that has an impact?
What else André thinks might surprise people outside of the company about RELEX? He says that many software professionals don’t really know how much impact our work has. With the help of RELEX’s Living Retail Platform, our customer companies can reduce food waste and logistics’ carbon footprint.
“Today, perhaps our main image challenge in the software developer target group is that developing a SaaS product for the logistics industry doesn’t sound very sexy. Our product isn’t directly visible to consumers. But if, for example, we can help our customer companies save thousands of tons of food, it literally has a huge impact”, André says.
Taking over the world map one RELEX office at a time
“I have also spent a couple of autumns at our Atlanta office. Sure, in terms of work, a lot is the same, but it’s been nice to get a chance to work from different places. At the same time, I have been able to meet new people and be involved in the company’s international growth”, André says.
According to André, his next RELEX office destination on the world map is already being planned, but let’s keep that a secret for now.
